Introduction to Green / Environmentally Friendly Cars

1.1.  Introduction to Green Cars

    • The sections that follow cover the many and varied alternative methods being used to power what is called an environmentally friendly (Green) car.

    • These “Green Cars” are designed to produce lower levels of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. See Green Cars. Section 2.

    • Fuels other than the fossil fuels of petrol and diesel have an important role.

    • These “alterative fuels”, such biofuel and hydrogen, are being derived from renewable or sustainable sources. See Green Cars. Section 3.

    • Green cars also use fuel cells, supercapacitors and batteries to power electric motors. See Green Cars. Sections 4 to 8.

    • When two methods of propulsion are used in one car the vehicle is called a Hybrid. See Green Cars. Section 9.

    • The subject can be explored in much greater depth via the many specialist web site links listed in Green Cars, Section 10
